COGNITIVE WARM-UP

March 2019, my fourth time as international speaker at DANKEEPERS INTERNTIONAL CAMP, the most important Goalkeepers Accademy in Denmark.

With more than 70 goalkeepers and other trainers from different countries: Joe Prodomo and Steve Potts (Bornemouth, England), Thorsteinn Magnusson (IBV Knattspyrna, Iceland), Anthony Williams (Cardiff Met, Wales), Joe Potts (England) and Jammie Annerson (Sheffield UTD, England). We exposed our work with different keepers groups divided per age and level.

Three days of three training sessions each.

The last morning training (9.00 AM) was my turn to work with group number 1. U-19 keepers with a high level.

That was a warm day, unusual for that period in Nordic lands. I knew I was needed to make a dynamic and funny initial exercise to wake up those guys and prepare them to an intense training. So I thinked the next cognitive warm up.

Cognitive warm up to goalkeepers

WARM UP DESCRIPTION

Goalkeepers started with free movements inside goal area. With my order (auditive stimilus), they had to take a position on the marks (1, 2 and 3).

Once the goalkeepers were posionated, I kicked the ball and at the same time I said a number (1, 2 or 3) represented by a keeper. That one had to catch the ball and the others two keepers had to move to one side quickly disturbing visual to the keeper called.

SECOND VERSION: the same exercise but I kicked the ball at ground level.

THIRD VERSION: if I hited the ball on the ground, they  would have to move to one position ahead. The keeper posionated on the mark number 1 had to to go to the mark numer 3.

FOURTH VERSION: the correct goalkeeper has having to attack the ball with a dive technique.

The attiude of the goalkeepers was excelent and the goal was achieved with this cognitive warm up.

In other article we will talk about the different techniques used in the north of Europe.
